Welcome to the Great Engineers Schools Challenge website
Welcome to the Great Engineers Schools Challenge (G.E.S.C) website. The challenge was set up back in 2013 to help encourage children to follow in the footsteps of some of our greatest engineers. The challenge begins for the children early in the autumn term just as they arrive back into school after the summer holidays. We chose this term as it is normally the longest term in order to give the children the time to build successfully. We will deliver 6 Meccano sets to each of the schools within the first few days of the autumn term and you will normally have 6 weeks construction time. We can also work with you and provide mentors to assist you along the way. These mentors are all volunteers that will have experience either in Meccano building or an engineering background. Since 2014 our main event has been hosted by NRM Shildon Locomotion and we have many different activities from various companies in and around the area such as Caterpillar (Peterlee) , Cummins (Darlington) and Hitachi (Newton Aycliffe) just to name a few..
