Report for the 2025 challenge day final

This years final was held at the Locomotion in Shildon which has been our home for the last 12 years. Once again the event was well attended with 17 schools taking part bringing 0ver 200 pupils with them.

  • 2025 Results:
  • 1st – Christ’s College (Sunderland) – Winner of the perpetual cup and a shield for the school to keep and a Meccano kit for the school
  • 2nd – Village Primary (Thornaby)
  • 3rd – Richard Avenue (Sunderland) – “Roaring Rockets” team
  • 4th – Deaf Hill Primary (Trimdon)

The locomotion also awards a trophy to the best individual model. These models are either built by children that have a desire to build more after completing the required model or have their own meccano at home.

This year we incorporated a train kit to each group to complete to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the steam railway.

As well as the schools various organisations joined in to help make the day fun and educational for all involved. Some of those in attendance were

  • Caterpillar
  • Hangar 1914 - a living history group building a full scale sopwith scout.
  • Move & Make (part of Fun & Fitness with Sheila CIC) – crafts and physical activity area.
  • Beamish Museum - a living history museum display
  • Durham & Darlington Fire Brigade - Fire Engine on display and saftey talks
